Before you start

Your school office or the saMas team has already added you; if sign-in says you are not linked to a school yet, ask them.

  1. Sign in

    High2 min
    1. Open pilot.beta.samas.school, your school's site.
    2. Press Continue with Google if your email is a Google account. Otherwise type your Email address and press Continue.
    3. On Check your email, type the 6-digit code we sent you and press Sign in.
    You'll seeYour dashboard.

Your first week

In this order. High tasks first.

  1. Look at your dashboard

    High2 min
    1. After you sign in you see Attendance this year, Fees, Published grades and Lessons today, then your latest grades, today's timetable, announcements and what is coming up.
  2. See your timetable

    High2 min
    1. Open Timetable for the whole week, as the office published it. On a phone you see today first; press Week grid for the whole week.
    2. Press Print for an A4 copy, or Share to send it as text.
You'll see"No class yet" means the office has not put you in a class; tell your class teacher.
  3. Join a live class

    Medium1 min
    1. Open Timetable. A lesson taught online shows Join from 10 minutes before it starts until it ends.
    2. Press Join. The class opens in a new tab.
    3. If your school has turned it on, press I'm here beside Join while the class is on. It then says Marked present.

I'm here works only for your own class and only while it is on. Your teacher's mark always counts over yours. When the school has it off, your teacher takes attendance.

  4. Read the weekly plan and tick your goals

    Medium3 min
    1. Open Weekly plan for this week's goals, the class teacher's note, and each day's tests, homework and things to bring.
    2. Tick each goal you reached.

You can tick goals until the Monday after the week.

  5. Choose your Flex session

    Low2 min
    1. Open Flex and pick Today or Tomorrow. Press Choose on a session, or Switch to this to change before the cut-off.
    2. If it is full, press Join the waiting list.

If you do not choose, you go to the study hall. A session a teacher asked you to join stays.

  6. Follow your work plan and keep your journal (Montessori classes)

    Low3 min
    1. Open Work plan to see what you must do this week, how many times, and what you may do.
    2. During the work cycle, type what you did, pick the subject and minutes, and press Add to my journal.

You can add to the journal only while the work cycle is on.

  7. See your homework and hand it in

    High5 min
    1. Open Homework. Work is grouped as To do, Handed in, waiting for marks, Marked and Missing.
    2. Open a homework. Type your Answer, or Attach photos or files of your work.
    3. Press Hand in.
You'll see"Handed in. The teacher can see it now."

Up to 5 files of 20 MB each: photos, PDF, Word, Excel or PowerPoint. You can replace your work until the teacher marks it. After the due time it is marked late, or refused if the teacher does not take late work.

  8. See your grades

    Medium3 min
    1. Open Grades for your average per subject and every published mark with your teacher's feedback.

You only see marks once the teacher publishes them. "Absent" is left out of your average.

  9. See your exam date sheet and results

    Medium3 min
    1. Open Exams. Each term shows the date, subject, time and room of every paper. Results appear when the school publishes them for your class.
  10. Check your attendance

    Medium2 min
    1. Open Attendance. Pick a Month to see each day, and the days you were away or late.

    Late counts as present.

  11. Read notices and the calendar

    Medium2 min
    1. Open Notices and calendar for school notices and the holidays, exams and events coming up.
  12. Write to a teacher

    Low3 min
    1. Open Messages and press New conversation. Tick the teacher in To, write a Subject and Message, and press Send.

Your parents can always read and reply. Some schools do not let students start messages; then ask a parent to write.

When you have time

  1. Set up your two-step code

    Low3 min
    1. Press your picture at the top right, then Account and security.
    2. Press Set up two-step. You may be asked to confirm it's you first.
    3. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password) and type the 6-digit code it shows. Press Turn on two-step.
    4. Save your backup codes with Copy or Download, then press I have saved them.

Each backup code works once, for a day your phone is not with you. Office work on the admin site needs this code. If the code does not match, delete older saMas School entries in your app and set your phone's time to automatic.

  2. See your fees

    Low2 min
    1. Open Fees. It shows what is due, what has been paid and each receipt.

Your parents pay and can upload a payment slip; you can only look.

Nothing here is urgent. Two-step keeps your account safe if someone learns your email; Fees is there so you know what your parents see.
